about

It was 30 years ago when a young singer/actress named Jeannie Taylore booked a studio in London for what became a marathon all day session for this album, Rough Diamond. Jeannie was acting in feature films, appearing on ITV and BBC programs including EastEnders and
in commercials as well as advising producers and directors on the use of authentic Cockney dialect and rhyming slang.

In addition to her busy film & TV calendar, Jeannie’s singing career was flourishing. She appeared on the platinum selling EastEnders LP and was a three times winner of “The Pub Entertainer Of The Year” Jeannie was in demand at pubs and clubs in England, Ireland, Scotland and Spain. She traveled all over doing charity events and was welcomed as a featured singer at exclusive clubs such as the A & R Club (Charing Cross Road) and the Embassy Club (Old Bond Street, Mayfair) At the Gentleman’s Jazz Club The Esquire Club, she was made an honorary member.

This studio session is the only one Jeannie did but it was as amazing then as it is now. The selections are diverse, ranging from the classic “What A Difference A Day Makes” (Jeannie learned it by listening to Dinah Washington), to old time Pub favorites like “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” to country (“By The Time I Get To Phoenix” & “Blanket On The Ground”) to Gospel (“The Old Rugged Cross” & “One Day At A Time”) and the inspirational closing tune “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Taking the recording into the Omni -Mix Studio in Sparta, New Jersey Joe Pedoto restored and remastered the songs. These 30 year old tunes spring to life with a vibrant joyfulness and urgency as if recorded today. Renowned jazz music writer Milton J. Kramer says of Rough Diamond it is “happy, jaunty, boisterous and soulful”

Dietetic Music is proud to release Rough Diamond for digital download on January 12, 2018. Susan Clifton of Gibraltar Television News said in an article entitled “Two Taylors Making A Hit”- the other being Elizabeth Taylor! - “ Jeannie does indeed have a beautiful voice” Hear Jeannie Taylore for yourself on this sterling CD.
